The automatic driplines I installed for all my hanging baskets and patio pots worked so well! Everything thrived, even while on vacation. But now I have to winterize them because we live in an area where winter is very harsh and very cold.
The directions said I could leave them out as long as I took precautions. I do have to take all the drippers off. I tried to remove a couple already and they wouldn’t budge. I’ll have to bring out the extension cord and blow dryer to warm up the line so they will slide off.
I have to unhook the battery-operatedcontrollers, store them in the basement and shut off the water valves. I always winterize the outdoor faucets anyway.
Here is the crucial part. If you leave the spaghetti lines out for the winter, you have to blow compressed air through the lines and make sure no water is left anywhere in the system. The only air compressor I have is my HVLP paint/varnish sprayer hose. That should work fine. I’ll join the end of the compressor hose to the end fixture of the spaghetti lines and tape it securely together then turn on the compressor. I’m hoping it will have enough pressure to clear all the lines. I may have to pinch different branches of the system so the air is concentrated in one area at a time to clear all the water out. I’m hoping it isn’t a big deal. Installing everything was a big job and many sections of the lines are stabled overhead on the pergola and around the fence so I’m hoping I can leave it all out.
