Rain, rain go away. I moved my work inside. Luckily, I haven’t finished the stripped floors yet so I just rolled up the area rug, put a canvas cover cloth on my dining room table and just worked in the house. We eat in front of the TV so we don’t use it anyway. I stripped several trim pieces (window stops) that hold the windows in. This was a redo because of the sun-blistering incident a couple of days ago
(see previous entries.)
The big picture window that is flanked by two double-hung windows is done. Phew!! So far I haven’t broken it but there was a close one today. That would have just taken the cake.
I can now put the grain filler back on the trim pieces and refinish them. The double-hung windows need 2 more coats to match the color I want. The inside window frames of all the windows are done and waxed with Bison Black Wax (they should slide really easy now) and the ropes have been replaced in 2 out of 4 pulleys. I’ll replace the last two before hanging the window back in.
I’ll have these windows opening and closing with ease and looking pretty just in time to shut them up for the winter. That’s typical. When we had our deck built, it snowed as soon as they finished building it. We got to look at it all winter longing for the chance to sit out on it.
My dining room table makes a good work table! It’s 100 years old, made of hard oak and sturdy as could be.
- Note my folded privacy screen in the background. I made that 4 years ago and never got a finish put on it. The panels are genuine mica panels like what they used in making turn-of-the-century lamp shades. They unfold on double-hinged hinges (either direction) and are hinged to the wall next to the door. They fold back against the wall or can be pulled across the whole door. It’s not folded flat in the picture because it is hiding all my tools I’ll be using in the next few days.
These are those dreaded white oak, window-stops, trim boards that I had to do over. I have them stripped. Two of the smaller ones didn’t get in the sun and were OK so I didn’t have to do those. Yes, my baseboards in this room are stripped and not finished yet. I have to stop reading so many blogs and start getting my own stuff done. (The rocking chair is one of a pair of Limbert arts and crafts chairs I inherited, it also gets abused when I work indoors.)
