We jumped in the car, put in the audio book of the latest (and last) Harry Potter book and headed for the Allegheny National Forest. We drove through Warren and then followed the river down the forest until we got back to Titusville, then home.
As we saw blocks and blocks of gorgeous Victorian and arts and crafts homes, I had to wonder why a town like Warren preserved theirs and yet Erie has just a handful left. We need to try and save the ones that are left.
Warren over looks the river. What a clean, beautiful little city. The first time I visited it, I wanted to live there. Many of the streets still have the red brick. You drive the neighborhood streets and just say “wow!” There are so many old houses in superb condition.
I took 100+ pictures of old and historic houses. Each one had something special about it. Either it was the color, the porch, the yard, the location or the gingerbread, brackets or trim. I’ll post a few pictures each day and explain what I thought was so neat about it. (I took most of the pictures while moving in the car with the camera set for quick shutter speed. It definitely was point and shoot.)
Click to enlarge. This is one of the main streets coming into town. I just thought that building was neat with the clock on it.
Click to enlarge. I thought this house had very nice trim. It is just two colors, black and white but the way they did it looked so neat and clean.
Click to enlarge. The first picture’s color is off but I wanted to show you the gorgeous porch. The second picture the color is more correct. This is a bed and breakfast called the Acorn Bed and Breakfast. They have a beautiful garden and ironwork, also. I love the trim around the windows and the brackets under the eaves. It’s all in the details!
Click to enlarge. This was a real stand out. I have never seen a house this color. But it looked nice. It was a tangerine color with a blue trim. If you enlarge it you will notice many different types of trimwork. On my computer if you click to enlarge and then click it again it will enlarge more. Each computer is different.
I’m a fan of arts and crafts houses but the ultimate dream for me is to one day have a Victorian house. How I would love to have lived in that era. Of course that would mean I would be dead now but that’s beside the point. :-) I’ll be posting more pictures.

Wonderful photos. I’m especially taken by the one with the clock tower. There was a time, I suppose when clock towers were everywhere, from gas stations to the Boston Store to Koehler brewery, but like phone booths, are becoming relegated to history.

Those are great! Inspiring isn’t it? And a little depressing…
