Waiting and Watching-Odds and Ends

I’m working on a small section of the front window trim and “crown” (all that fancy molding above the windows and doors). I bought the paper for Peel Away and am trying that because I’m pretty burned out stripping all the wood in the house. I’m hoping it will cut down on the work. I’m now averaging about 6ft of molding a year the past couple of years. I’m looking forward to having it done so I can entertain people. Ha! At the rate I’m going it will be 20 years before I’m done.

My fear is the paper will stick and dry there on the wood before I get to it. I applied the stripper yesterday and put the paper on it and left the room. Out of sight, out of mind (until I try to sleep and all these things are on a continuous loop through my mind.) I continued upstairs to our office and built a built-in bookshelf in the closet to get all the books out of sight.

I knew there was a reason I didn’t want to get up today. I came down for my coffee and there it was, staring me in the face. Paper on the moldings. Ok, let’s just see how much easier this Peel Away paper will make this job.

When I was in my Peel Away 7 state of mind, I used aluminum foil directly over the stripper instead of their paper. The stripper stayed wet a very long time and completely soaked into all layers of the paint making stripping a snap. Others have used saran wrap but for me the foil was easier to deal with. Also, I tried the Peel Away 1 with the aluminum foil and it ate the foil (very caustic). The Peel Away 7 didn’t eat the foil.
