See Victorian Houses of Woodstock, IL

July 23rd, 2007 · 3 Comments

We spent Friday through Sunday near Woodstock, IL. (We came for a friend’s birthday party in Crystal Lake, IL.) I love the town square where the movie Groundhog Day was filmed. Woodstock stood in as Punxsutawny, PA. The opera tower where Bill Murry’s character, Phil Conners, jumps off of is right on the square. There is a plaque where Phil Conners steps off of the curb into the water (over and over again in the movie.) The bed and breakfast Phil Conners stayed is for sale and is in the slideshow. Also, the piano teacher’s house where he takes his piano lessons. It is also for sale.

The slide show is large and shows many different styles and color schemes of mostly Victorian houses. I had a ball walking the few blocks we did. I ran out of digital space on my camera! Woodstock, IL is beautiful!

Linda, You must have been in your glory with all those Victorian homes. They are absolutely beautiful. Have you been to the Chautauqua Institute to see all the old, beautiful Victorians there? If not, you’d love it. Nothing but Victorian homes. Not quite as stately as these mansions, but beautiful, well kept Victorians all the same.

Yes, I’ve been to Chautauqua Institute many times. We came for a flyfishing seminar there, saw Ray Charles there, also and some of the other goings-on there during the summer over the past few years. I love the cottages and the gardens. I love the hotel with it’s big, beautiful porch over looking the lake.

I wish I could have had a whole day to just look at all the old homes in Woodstock. The town square is so nice with great restaurants! A friend of ours has a law office on the square. It would be a nice place to live, especially if you can live in one of those grand old houses!
