Sharpening a Card Scraper-free online video

April 20th, 2007 · 2 Comments

The Wood Whisperer has just released a free video online on how to sharpen a card scraper. The card scraper is a great thing to have if you are stripping your woodwork, for when you need to get rid of the raised grain, etc. It takes the place of sand paper in a lot of instances, though I still use sandpaper on the edges and on the moldings and touch up. I use mine quite often. I bought a tool jig that helps me sharpen mine but this video shows you how to do it without one. Below is one version of his video. There is a low resolution version you can click on at his website as well as many other woodworking videos. He has podcasts, also. He is very personable and I think he will have his own TV show in the future. Below is the flash version, even though he used a screenshot of something else.

    Great video,
    Good instructions,
sad that he used the file in both directions. Held a file should only be pushed, locked into place, the material should only be rubbed toward the handle. Otherwise you tend to dull the file without having done much good.

Thanks, Bob, I wondered about that. The instructions on the sharpener I got never said whether to go in one direction only. Now I know.
